A 13 year-old female pupil claimed she was made to wear a note on her chest, stating her name and that ‘she was wearing the wrong uniform’, all day after arriving at school in a pair of black canvas lace-up pumps rather than leather shoes as stated in the rules.
Her grandmother, 65, said: “My granddaughter is a good student who enjoys school, she is not a trouble maker and it’s not as if she was wearing scruffy shoes or trainers.
“The school’s reaction was completely unreasonable. It made me think of Hitler forcing people to wear yellow stars.”
Mr Jeapes said the notes were designed to stop children from being repeatedly challenged by staff.
He said: “The purpose of issuing the self adhesive note was to stop the student being continually picked up over uniform. Since staff have been instructed to challenge any student without correct uniform, some students choose to “wear” the note, some stick it to their diary planner and get this out every time they are challenged.”
Jews living in the German Reich were forced to wear a yellow Star of David badge with the word Jew on it following a decree issued in 1941. The badge was gradually introduced to other German-occupied areas. It was intended to mark out Jewish people and was a tool associated with antisemitism.
